JUNE 21st - 26th - BRING YOUR BEAR TO NURSERY WEEK

BookStart Bear came to visit the nursery on Wednesday 23rd. He came to give the 3 year old children their treasure chest of books. Kathryn the Community Development Manager read us some stories - were going on a bear hunt, and we sang ryhmes.

Bookstart is run by Booktrust, an independent national charity that encourages people of all ages and cultures to engage with books. We want every child in the UK to develop a lifelong love of books. Bookstart is a public and private partnership and is generously sponsored by children?s book publishers, Central funding is provided through the devolved administrations in Scotland, Wales and, the Department of Education in Northern Ireland and the Department of Education in England. Working through local authorities and primary care trusts, Bookstart gives the gift of free books to children at around eight months, 18 months and three years, along with guidance materials for parents and carers. Bookstart also aims to foster a love of books through a range of fun activities. Parents wishing to receive a pack should speak to their Health Visitor or contact their local library.

we are also having teddy bears picnics and bear hunts in the outdoor area.

THE STEPPED APPROACH TO OUTDOOR LEARNING

The outdoor environment is on our action plan for improvement this year so we are extrememly lucky that we have the opportunity to attend some fabulous training through St Helens Sure Start - it is 8 days over the following year, where we will reflect on our outdoor provision, and also will get some fabulous resources that will improve the outcomes for children who attend the setting. Please look out in nursery for more information, leaflets and displays.

We have got our first collection of resources - water play - and the children are loving getting into their all weather suits, and experimenting with the guttering and pipes, and large water containers.

Our second collection, buidling and construction will be arriving early mya after our 3rd day of training.

CAPITAL ACCESS GRANT

We have been awarded some funds from the government as part of an initiative to improve Private, voluntary and independant settings.

All our new flooring is now complete, and all the furniture has been delivered. thank you for your patience as we have been moving thinhgs around, finding what works best for how the children use the resources and learning areas.

We have aslo purchased some new resources from our nursery budget  in order to ensure that all continuous provision areas are well equiped to encourage the children to explore thier environment.

well done to HANNAH AND RACHAEL who won staff member of the term together. You are both so dedicated, and get on with your jobs without shouting about it from the roof tops. you are alsways calm and never get flustered or seem to let things get on top of you or get you down. It is really appreci...ated when you both offer to swap shifts or stay late. Hannah your confidence has grown so much in your abilities and you know what and how things should be done. Rachael, you have such a lovley manner with the children and are so patient with them. You both work so well together and are highly valued members of our setting and Portico Day Nurseries ltd. Prizes where jewellery and fashion handbag.

well done to THE UNDER 2'S ROOM . You have won room of the term - you work exceptionally well as a team, supporting linzi. There seems to be an unspoken agreement and things just get done. I feel i really have your support in making changes and improvements for the setting. You put so much effort... into the chatterbox challenge week, making displays, props and singing with the children every day. Displays are changed regularly using children's work.Your mothers day cards and easter cards where thought about, time was spent on them and they where really lovely. Im so proud of the way you settle in new babies and toddlers, spending time, sitting with the families on visits and then with the children when they start. You are proud of your room and it shows. They have chosen to have some goldfish as their prize as the chidren really love watching the fish in our pretend aquarium.
